Automatic safety covers provide several benefits from protecting your family to lowering your heating bill. And, yes, they can be installed on new or existing swimming pools. One of the key decisions you and your pool cover expert will make is what type of track will be used to guide the cover from one end of the pool to the other.
What are my Tracks options!
There are two basic types of track systems: under track and top track. The type of system chosen for a particular project is based on the shape of the pool, the location of the track, and the timing of the track installation.
Under Track System
This type of track system is generally installed on rectangular pools. It is paired with a drive mechanism that is mounted below grade in a covered box. The track is mounted under the coping to keep it out of sight, providing a clean look to the installation.
The actual mounting of the track can be accomplished in two ways:
- pool cover retainer. In this process, the aluminum retainer is mounted to the top of the pool wall before the coping is poured, which process ensures the strongest connection because it is installed with screws and set in-place with concrete. The pool cover track fits inside the retainer and is secured with a shim.
- The second option is mainly used when retainer can’t be installed before coping. In this scenario, pool cover track can be secured to the bottom of the coping itself by drill into it and securing it with screws.
Top Track System
Top track systems are designed specifically for existing pools. Both the drive mechanism and the low-profile track are mounted on top of the pool deck. In some cases, track can be installed flush with the surface of the deck but this scenario requires specific conditions and extra expense. The pool cover mechanism is mounted on top of the pool deck so many customers elect to have us build a bench to cover it, which not only protects the mechanism but it also provides seating for those enjoying the pool.
Get the Specifics for Your Pool
It you are preparing to have a swimming pool installed, it’s a good idea to consider an automatic safety cover before pool construction begins. Doing so will enable installation of the track in the most inconspicuous way. However, as noted above, an auto cover can be added to a pool at any time.
